Transfer Resulting from a Divorce or Separation - Rhode Island

You have indicated that you acquired an ownership interest in the borrower’s property as the result of a divorce or separation. Please note that, in order to confirm you as a successor in interest to the borrower, we will require proof that you were transferred an ownership interest in the borrower’s property and proof of your identity.
GIVEN YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES, WE WILL ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:
To prove that there was a divorce or separation:
- Judgment of divorce
To prove that you were transferred an ownership interest in the borrower’s property:
- If the property was transferred through a deed:
- Deed transferring the property to you
- If a divorce decree or judgment affecting the property was issued by a court in a state other than Rhode Island:
- Deed transferring the property to you
- If you do not have a deed, but the judgment of divorce has become final:
- Recorded judgment of divorce
- If you do not have a deed, but the judgment of divorce has incorporated a property settlement agreement and the judgment of divorce has become final, both:
- Settlement agreement, and
- Recorded judgment of divorce
To prove your identity:
- Your photo identification
