Granting funds to empower organizations
Flagstar Bank has a long tradition of corporate philanthropy because we believe it’s important to give back to the community. The Flagstar Bank and New York Community Bank (NYCB) merger has provided the opportunity for the Foundation to expand its key market areas and philanthropy.
The Flagstar Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations that have measurable outcomes and align with our corporate philanthropic priorities:
- Workforce readiness – We support organizations preparing individuals with barriers to employment to earn a living wage. This can include apprenticeship programs, skilled trades training, STEM initiatives, and literacy.
- Arts and culture – We support organizations addressing artistic cultural diversity for individuals from underserved communities and providing opportunities to discover and develop their creative abilities. This area covers visual, musical, and performing arts and can include arts educational programs, art therapy, and community performances and exhibits.
- Financial capability – We support organizations serving individuals with low to moderate incomes to build knowledge, well-being, security, and confidence. This is through VITA tax preparation assistance programs.
In addition, the organizations must fall within our key market areas:
- Arizona
- California (High Desert of San Bernardino County)
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- New York
- Northern Indiana (primarily South Bend and Fort Wayne)
- Northern Wisconsin (Gillett, Mountain, and Oconto Falls)
- Ohio
- South Florida
The Foundation places special emphasis to direct grant funding toward nonprofits that serve racial and ethnic groups, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, women, and veterans. This approach helps us support and promote the bank’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
