PROTECTING YOUR FINANCES
Criminals are getting bolder in their attempts to steal money and personal information, with some even meeting people face-to-face. In a recent scam, they pretend to be from a bank’s fraud department contacting you about “an urgent issue with your account.” Their story is not true—they’re trying to scare you into giving them what they want before you have time to think.
At Flagstar, your security is a top priority. As scams become more sophisticated, staying alert is your best defense. Here are some important things to keep in mind.
What Flagstar will NEVER do or ask you to do
- WILL NOT meet in person to collect your debit card or cash
- WILL NOT ask for your debit card PIN or account password
- WILL NOT send you a link via text or email to access your account
- WILL NOT ask you to download an app to communicate with our fraud department
- WILL NOT call you to request your one-time passcode or token code
Tips to protect yourself
- DO NOT share sensitive information with someone who contacts you.
This includes your login credentials, PINs, and security codes.
- Be cautious of “emergency” calls or messages from a “fraud department.”
Take special care if they create a sense of urgency or ask you to act quickly. If something doesn’t feel right, hang up and call us directly so we can confirm whether there is an actual issue or not.
- How to reach us:
Our main number is 888-248-6423, which you can find on our website and on your account statements. You can also call or stop by a branch or send a secure message through online banking.
- Keep an eye on your account.
Set up account alerts to receive updates via text or email, or check your account regularly for unusual payments, changes to account information, or new contacts to your payment profile. See something suspicious? Let us know.
Stay informed and stay protected
Scammers use fear and urgency because they work. To fight back, take a moment to pause and verify what you’re hearing. If you’re ever unsure, please contact us.
